1738-Imperial Ballet School in St. Petersburg
The Imperial Ballet School is the second oldest ballet school in the world. It was founded by Jean-Baptiste Lande, a ballet master and dancer, in 1738. Some of the most highly advanced dancers attended this school. It was here where many ballet positions and moves were established as well. Marius Petipa, the man considered to be "the father of Russian ballet", was Imperial's head dance master. He had conducted over 60 ballets, including the classic Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty. With all this history, it still remains to be one of the greatest ballet schools to this day.
