1940s - Margot Fonteyn (1919-1991)
Regarded as the best ballerina of all time, Margot Fonteyn danced her whole career as apart of the Royal Ballet Academy from the age of 14. She was eventually appointed as Prima Ballerina by HM Queen Elizabeth II by 1939. At this point, she had played the main roles in the ballets of Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake. When the Royal Ballet toured the United States, she soon became a popular celebrity among society, as well. Throughout her career, she was best known for her grace, poise, professionalism and above all, her passion for the art.
