1581-Ballet Comique de la Reine
The ballet performance of Ballet Comique de la Reine was the very first ballet ever performed in recorded history. Performed in 1581, it was a huge success and began the new form of entertainment in the courts. The dance was to celebrate Catherine de Medicis sister's betrothal. The queen, her ladies, and her nobles performed the dance.
Not only was it the first ballet, it was also the first to be written down and performed, not only in the French courts, but in England as well. Balthazar de Beaujoyeulx published the dance in 1851 as Balet Comique de la Royne. It, too, had wide success. This ballet influenced the court's entertainment of dance forever.
